Most insurance companies will cover the cost of a speech and language evaluation. It is your responsibility to know if your plan requires a referral from your primary care physician (PCP). It is very important for you to review the benefits information provided by your health plan. Call your insurance company and ask about limitations and exclusions. Ask for clarification in writing from the plan administrator. Always keep a record of all correspondence and telephone calls, including date, time, and name of person you speak with. We are available to assist you if necessary.

Tips for Calling Insurance Carriers

At times, dealing with insurance companies can be a hassle. Below are some helpful tips on how to ensure your insurance company covers your speech therapy visits:

  • Contact your insurance company and ask if they cover speech therapy. If they do cover it, is there a limitation on visits per calendar or contract year?
  • Do you need a referral from your primary care? If so make sure the physician calls it in before your appointment.
  • You MUST get an ORIGINAL prescription from the referring physician for the services you are receiving along with a diagnosis. The physician can send it to us at info@ptp-atlanta.com or bring it in with you on the first visit. We cannot treat anyone without a prescription.
  • Notify Professional Therapy Providers, immediately when you change insurance companies.
  • If you have two insurance companies and your primary carrier has a co-pay, you must pay the co-pay at the time of service.
  • Keep all explanation of benefits from your insurance carrier.
  • You are responsible for all charges not covered by the insurance company.
